While in junior and high school, Ms. Boesen played violin with the DePauw University Symphony and studied with DePauw violin Professors Patience Thompson Berg and Herman Clyde Berg. Her performances in several of DePauw's Contemporary Music Festivals were under the direction of eminent composers Aaron Copland, Howard Hanson, and Lukas Foss. Her portfolio also includes playing violin in the pit orchestras for the Putnam County Playhouse under the direction of Dan Hanna, Director of Bands at DePauw, in musicals including Peter Pan, Hello Dolly, The Music Man, My Fair Lady, 110 in the Shade, How to Succeed in Business without Really Trying, Fiddler on the Roof, and Mame.

After graduating Valedictorian from Greencastle High School in 1974 in Greencastle, Indiana, she went on to earn a B.A. in Music from Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts in 1978, where she studied with renown violinist Philipp Otto Naegele. From 1976-1977, she sang first soprano in both the Smith College Glee Club, which performed in Lincoln Center in April 1977 and made a recording for the Book-of-the-Month Club; and in the Smith College Chamber Singers, which, in June 1977, gave concerts in Chartres Cathedral, London, Paris, and Geneva, and which won first and second prizes at the International Koor Festival in The Hague. Continuing her education, Ms. Boesen then earned a Master of Library Science (MLS) in Music Librarianship from Indiana University in Bloomington and served on the board of the Community Chamber Music Association of Bloomington.

Ms. Boesen served as a Director-at-Large on the Board of Directors of the Alumnae Association of Smith College from 1986 to 1989, and on the Smith College Board of Trustees Medal Committee from 1987 to 1989.

Ms. Boesen served a five-year term as Secretary of the Smith College Class of 1978 from 1993-1998 and again in 2013-2018. Ms. Boesen has played violin with The Woodlands Symphony and in a group that performed for President George H. W. Bush during his visit to The Woodlands on May 4, 1994. On December 17, 1997, she was invited to perform Christmas carols on Houston's KHOU Channel 11. Ms. Boesen also performed at Mannafest, a Christian music festival, sponsored by Hidden Manna Ministries in New Waverly, Texas, in October 1998 and October 1999. She served as Professor of Strings at North Harris College.
